What did your child have for breakfast this morning? There is a consensus that children should eat breakfast every morning. Studies have shown that children who eat breakfast have higher rates of achievement, less school absences and tardiness and increased levels of consciousness. Choosing breakfast foods that are rich in whole grains, fiber, and protein while low in added sugar may boost kid’s attention span, concentration and memory. So, what should your child eat for optimal health and well-being? Kids Health has a wonderful website for parents and kids. http://kidshealth.org/parent/nutrition_center/healthy_eating/breakfast.html

It gives information on what to eat and how much to eat. It even gives recipes that parents and children can create for healthy eating. You could make these breakfast squares, spend time together and make something nutritious to eat that your child can even eat on the go http://kidshealth.org/kid/recipes/recipes/oatmeal_squares.html#cat20229 . The site even has recipes if your child has dietary restrictions.

So, let’s arm our kids with the foods they need to succeed. Breakfast is a simple but very easy and effective tool for success.
