I am excited to be a part of the St. Joseph Catholic School community as the new full day preschool teacher working with four year olds. I look forward to being a part of such a positive and caring academic community where body, mind and spirit are nurtured and developed.

Although I earned my education degree in Ohio, I have been a preschool teacher in Libertyville for the last 15 years. I love teaching preschool children and seeing the world through their eyes. I believe a warm and loving environment both encourages children to learn as well as helps them gain self-confidence. I am a strong believer in learning through play as well as hands on learning to help foster a child’s creativity and development. I look forward to a positive, loving, and wonderful year with your child!

Peek At Our Week May 20 - May 24, 2024

Religion: Special Lesson: Fathers’ Day: The children will express an understanding that God the Father gave them Fathers. The children will show appreciation for what their fathers do for them. The children will show love for their fathers. **We will be attending Mass with our 4th Grade Prayer Buddies on Tuesday**

Literacy: Heggerty Lesson Overview Weeks 28-35 : Week 34. Students will produce words that rhyme. Students will isolate the initial sound in spoken words. Students will learn to blend three phonemes into a spoken word. Students will continue to practice phoneme isolation with final and medial(vowel) phonemes in spoken words. Students will learn to segment a spoken word into three phonemes. Students will manipulate the initial phoneme in a spoken work with adding, deleting, and substituting.Use complete sentences in a discussion. Shared reading and story comprehension. What’s my word: Respond appropriately to a text. Answer questions about a story. Letter hop through the alphabet. Letter of the week: Zz.

Math: Sharing fairly, sharing fairly without leftovers, sharing fairly with leftovers and making 10 with our hands and feet. Identifying the numbers in our phone number. 2D shape sorting. Concepts of biggest and smallest. Making a new shape from pattern blocks Sequencing making a birthday cake. Focus Shape: Triangle

Science: We will review living and non living things. What makes something living?? We will also learn about the life cycle of a frog. A frog goes through a metamorphosis as it grows. What other animals go?

Social Studies: Scholastic: My BIG World Clifford: “You’re So Big Now!”! : Social Studies focus: growing up. Theme Vocabulary: big kid. Skills We’re Practicing: group discussion, critical thinking, vocabulary, self-awareness, handwriting/letter/recognition.

Afternoon Enrichment:

Monday: Our World and Beyond: The children will learn about the Sun. The sun is a star that the other planets revolve around. The Sun is at the center of the solar System. How hot is the sun? What does the sun do? (controls our seasons, helps food grow, keeps the other planets in line)

Tuesday: ABC Review. Letter Hunt and put letters in order. Identify sounds/words for each letter.

Wednesday: Patterning, 2D and 3D shape review. Counting to 20.

Thursday: Bushel of Books:We will read: Swimmy by: Leo Lionni. Concepts of Print, sequencing. The boys and girls will use markers and water to make a cute fish craft.

Friday: We will be taking a walking Field Trip to Cook Memorial Library with Mrs. Beyer’s class. Following a storytime at the library, we will have a snack and play at the library before walking back to school.

This afternoon we learned about the Earth’s moon. The moon has dark spots called seas which are actually dark lava spots. The Moon is airless, waterless and lifeless. The boys and girls helped me make moon dough out of flour and baby oil. This was a super soft dough which can be formed into a ball when force is exerted on it.

Pentecost is Sunday. Mae had our Religion lesson about Pentecost. God’s son Jesus gave his friends a helper who would always be with them. The Holy Spirit is everywhere and fills us with peace and love. The boys and girls ,are us a beautiful cross covered in tissue paper and a dove representing peace.

The boys and girls worked very hard figuring out the ending sounds.

The boys and girls did a very difficult write the room. They looked for cards around the room. The first 3 letters of the word were on the card. Looking at the picture the boys ad girls had to figure out the ending sound of the word and write it on their,sheet.

Izabel was our Special Person today! She also lost her second tooth yesterday!

The boys and girls had such fun finding the bugs, examining them with their magnifying glasses and identifying the bugs on their sheets.

The boys and girls had a fun outside scavenger hunt. They had to find bugs and other creatures that live outside. Once they found them they marked them on their recording sheet.

The boys and girls did a great job with an insect sorting game. They each had a picture card and had to determine if it was an insect or not an insect.

Anderson drew a beautiful heart picture!

We had Media with Mrs Hoglund. She read the boys a d girls a book and then then listened to a story on the I pad or drew a picture on doodlebug.

This morning we out to the small playground to watch the 8th grade Egg Drop. The boys and girls had fun seeing the ladder fire truck. It was also fun to see which eggs didn’t break during their long fall!

Rocco was our Special Person today!

This afternoon the boys and girls did a number 1-20 count the room.
