I am excited to be a part of the St. Joseph Catholic School community as the new full day preschool teacher working with four year olds. I look forward to being a part of such a positive and caring academic community where body, mind and spirit are nurtured and developed.

Although I earned my education degree in Ohio, I have been a preschool teacher in Libertyville for the last 15 years. I love teaching preschool children and seeing the world through their eyes. I believe a warm and loving environment both encourages children to learn as well as helps them gain self-confidence. I am a strong believer in learning through play as well as hands on learning to help foster a child’s creativity and development. I look forward to a positive, loving, and wonderful year with your child!

The boys and girls did a nice job!

The boys and girls did a rhyming write the room. They had to find the cards around the room, find a word on their sheet that rhymes with the word on the card and write the rhyming word.

Gio was our Special Person today!

Using a coffee filter and geeen and blue markers the boys and girls colored their filters and then sprayed them with water. The water caused the marker colors to,spread. The result was something that looked like our planet Earth!

We learned about the Earth this afternoon. Earth is the third planet from the sun. Earth is also called the blue planet because the majority of our planet is covered by water. Using a golf ball and a pie plate the boys and girls we able to see how the Earth revolves around the sun.

This is a hard concept, but the majority of the boys and girls did a great job!

The boys and girls learned about symmetry this morning. A butterfly has wings that are symmetrical in design. We looked at examples of things that were symmetrical and non symmetrical. The boys and girls then cut out their own butterfly and designed symmetrical wings.

Peek At Our Week May 13 - May 17, 2024

Religion: Special Lesson: Pentecost: The children will name ways that people are helpers. The children will express an understanding that God’s Son, Jesus, sent us the Holy Spirit to be our helper. The children will discuss how to bring peace to others.

Literacy/Literacy: Heggerty Lesson Overview Weeks 28-35 : Week 33. Students will produce words that rhyme. Students will isolate the initial sound in spoken words. Students will learn to blend three phonemes into a spoken word. Students will continue to practice phoneme isolation with final and medial(vowel) phonemes in spoken words. Students will learn to segment a spoken word into three phonemes. Students will manipulate the initial phoneme in a spoken work with adding, deleting, and substituting. Letter of the week Yy. Home/School Connection: Bring a Yy item from home.

Math: Count 10 items in any order. Count 10 children in any order. Combining sets to make10. Making sets of 10. Make and break 10. Ten frames. Focus Color: Pink

Science: Bug Science. The children will become Entomologists for the day when we explore bugs and their life cycle of a butterfly. We will also go outside and observe the variety of bugs we see.While outside, the children will also observe and identify living and nonliving things we see outside. What makes something living? It grows, it breathes and can move.

Afternoon Enrichment

Monday: Our World and Beyond: The planet Earth. The children will learn about the planet we live on. The children will learn that Planet Earth is in the solar system and revolves around the sun. The children will learn that Earth is made up of Land, Air and Water.

Tuesday: ABC Review. Letter Hunt and put letters in order. Identify sounds/words for each letter.Review letter Yy.

Wednesday: Patterning, 2D and 3D shape review. Counting to 20. Measuring different objects that we find outside with cubes.

Thursday: Bushel of Books: We will some Click Clack Books by Doreen Cronin. We will learn about the author that wrote these fun books. Concepts of Print, Sequencing and retelling of a story.

Friday: STEM: We will continue our study of our Moon. Why are there craters on the moon? Can we see the moon during the day? The boys and girls will make moon dough.

Before the boys and girls went out to play, they placed the rocks they had painted around the preschool butterfly garden. Our rocks are added to the rocks from last year as well as rocks Mrs Buyer’s class will paint to create a beautiful border for the garden!

They did a great job? Many of the boys and girls created stories to go along with their picture.

We started learned about insects today. Insects have 3 body parts, 6 legs and 2 antennas. The boys and girls used their artistic skills to color a landscape for their own big puppet show!
